The Masks
The Masks series brings masks into a different context and setting, in which they reflect varying perspectives on waste and its related issues. It revisits the theme of plastic in a way that resonates universally, acknowledging humanity’s reliance on plastic—a material that is nearly impossible to reject—and the lasting traces this usage leaves behind, culminating in environmental problems.
Drawing on the concept of the Anthropocene, the presentation emphasizes human consumption of plastic, which leaves its mark on the planet, highlighting the profound impact human actions have on ecological systems. The work repurposes plastic bags from convenience stores, transforming them into human masks that interact with people. These masks encourage viewers to reconsider their relationship with plastic, presenting them as universal symbols and tangible evidence of every era, urging reflection on humanity’s complex connection with this pervasive material.
